Some of the many ways we cultivate a culture of supporting and equipping parents include:
Back to Granite Night
This is an annual event held early in the school year at which parents meet their children’s tutors and learn the specifics about the classes their students are taking, ask questions, and bring any initial concerns to the tutors’ attention.
Parent Meetings & Seminars
We hold seminars at the end of summer to help parents prepare for the school year, become more familiar with classical education, and learn about the needs of students at different stages throughout the classical model. Throughout the school year, we hold parent meetings and further seminars in order to keep parents informed, to build community, and to encourage and support one another.
Coffee & Conversation
Administration holds scheduled morning coffee social time on Granite days throughout the year. This is a time for parents to encourage one another and build each other up in the homeschooling adventure. Occasionally these morning socials will have a particular academic focus to inform parents about different aspects of the GCT curriculum and to give tips and tools for helping students at home.
Field Trips
We know that homeschooling is so much more than instruction and homework! We schedule parent-led field trip days throughout the academic year, making it easy to enrich your child’s education.
At Granite, you are not alone in your homeschooling endeavor. We aim to create a supportive community and to give parents the tools and encouragement they need to serve their children well with an excellent classical homeschooling experience.
High School Support
We are committed to helping you homeschool all the way through high school. Our high school guidance counselor, Kendall Morton, is available by appointment to help you plan a high school program that will fit your child’s needs and aspirations. We have also developed many resources and support systems to encourage you and help you handle the unique challenges that high school brings, such as creating a transcript, searching for and applying to colleges, and making sure your high school student’s program is the best it can be.
